Nathaniel is treading an emotional knife-edge, and the abyss is beckoning.
Following the deaths of his wife and baby, he has lived with unresolved guilt and grief, and it is tearing him apart. Enter temporary housekeeper, Megan, empathetic and compassionate, but with baggage of her own.
Is she strong enough to save a broken soul bent on self destruction or is it already too late...for both of them?

Saving Nathaniel edition by Jillian Ward Contemporary Romance eBooks

Wife of MPG.

Is Nathaniel perfect? No. He's perfectly ambitious, determined, and serious, but he has flaws--temperamental, alcoholic, grief-stricken, guilt-ridden, and most of all, tragically human. He has moments of vulnerability. He should perhaps seek counseling, but his solution is in Megan.

Megan is not perfect either, but she is a foil to Nat's idiosyncrasies. She has been abused, taken advantage of, but a heart that continues to give and give. But she finally stands up and fights for herself.

They're not your standard romance hero/heroine... they're your everyday Joe and Jane. They're not perfect but they work together really well. He makes her stronger by standing up for herself and standing up for what is right for him; and she makes him access his deeper emotions, and understand his actions have consequences. Promises can be broken, it's a reality, as no one is able to do everything. What works in theory, doesn't always apply to reality.

I can't wait for the sequel--Keeping Christopher!

Saving Nathaniel edition by Jillian Ward Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

This was a good book. Building relationships and developing trust. The build up developing the characters was well done. I enjoyed this book.
I liked this book.I was immediately drawn into the story and I found I liked the main characters very much.I felt this was a 5 star story and well done.
While the Nethaniel is somewhat disturbed, the character and relationship development are well done in this book. There are parts that do drag along, but the writing is very well done.
Great storyline, believable characters, full of both humor and drama. Made me laugh and teary. Perfect ending - happily ever after.
Wow!!. I was pondering on whether or not to leave a review. Because usually for me to do that, a story has to have really affected me either positively or negatively in order for me to start typing.
That being said, I am highly on the fence about this "contemporary romance" story. First off the writing style, I think, was done very well thus my 3 star rating. As for the story and characters, oh boy was this an enabler's dream story. WTH was the deal with Meg? We get more background and insight into Nathaniel I guess, hence the title of the book. But we only get , I believe, snippets of Meg's past and why she is the way she is. Her sister calls her out on her mess, even Nathaniel calls her out on her acceptance of his mess and still she doesn't budge, it's as if she gets off on it. I guess what I got from all that dysfunction was that they deserve eachother broken and all.
I again have to touch on the writing style. The author's description of Nathaniel and his smelly drunken state of duress was so pundgent that I could almost smell his alcohol induced state right off the pages. She did a great job of describing him at his worst. I mean nothing was spared. Megan on the hand,I didn't have too much to go on about her. She really just came off as plain which I believe was how she was pretty much described.
For all it's faults with the story line, I must admit that I did keep reading, somehow I was hoping for more growth emotionally on both their parts. There was just a bit on Nathaniel's, but for Meg I don't know.. I just don't know.
This was different from the typical romances I'm used to, and not only because of the setting/Scottish accent, etc. It was just different all around. I laughed out loud in several places, I cried and I loved the developing friendship/romance. I would have given it five starts except that the pacing was difficult at times when the author would sort of flash back instead of keeping things concurrent, and also because I felt the heroine simply ignoring the hero's irrational act at the end (won't spoil that one for you, sorry) was a little too irresponsible IMO-even though he turned out to be a good guy and even though things worked out (Maybe the author was making the point that it took someone like her with her particular weakness to overlook such a thing and see the real man underneath Nathaniel's exterior?), but I still liked the book. Worth your time. If the author writes another similar to this, I'll read it, too.
Although this book is actually quite long for an e-book (at least ones that I have been reading), I couldn't put it down and finished it in one day. Every chance I got, I was sneaking a chapter here and there on my kindle.
This book has so much going on (in a good way) as far as emotions. Tension was running high between Nat and Megan. I was beginning to worry if the end would be the ending that I even wanted. Nat was such a surly older man, who was just mad at the world. But, when Megan comes in to the picture, some how he begins to grow and change. Not over night, and many mistakes were made along the way, but for some reason he was able to change, for her and because of her.
I don't usually read books where the main characters are in the 50's age range, but I didn't really notice a big difference from other books I read. I was able to just slip into the Megan role and 'be' her for the most part. I don't want to give much of this book away, because I am really bad at blabbing spoilers without even really meaning to, so I will just say, that this book is a really amazing read. I hope to read more from this author in the future.
